In Chinese culture, the classic idiom “San Yang Kai Tai” (三阳开泰) signifies the return of spring, the fading of winter’s hardships, and the arrival of great fortune. This clever wordplay relies on a homophone: the character for the auspicious “Yang” energy of the sun and spring (阳) is pronounced exactly the same as the word for sheep (羊). Therefore, the image of sheep is traditionally used to convey this beautiful blessing.
The artwork depicts three sheep—a gentle adult accompanied by two young ones—grazing peacefully beneath a resilient pine tree and elegant bamboo. The pine and bamboo symbolize longevity, upright character, and continuous upward growth. Titled “Good Luck Always Present” (好运常在), this piece captures the essence of continuous prosperity, smooth transitions into better times, and the eternal presence of joy.
Crafted using Zhu Bingren Copper’s signature relief engraving techniques, the brass surface is intricately textured, bringing the auspicious scene to life with a rich, dimensional effect.
